2012 Porsche Boxster caught testing

by Alex

The spy cameramen can be considered a special breed who manage to get into just about anything and anywhere in their relentlessness pursuit to bring out images that surely would be the last thing that car makers would like to see getting published. Their latest trophy is the collection of images of the upcoming Porsche Boxter. However, according to what the image is giving away the new Porsche Boxter is no hugely different in appearance from the current model.

The biggest modification in terms of the external look of the Boxster comes from underneath its panels. For the upcoming model will be built on a longer platform which is borrowed from the next generation 911/991. Apart from that the Boxster will have some of the features you already know about, like the front and rear fascia, center mounted exhaust pipes along with side mirrors that are restyled. Then there are chances of the new Boxster to also have some features carried over from the Panamera as well. Also, a Boxster with a longish wheelbase also leaves open the scope for Porsche to come up with a baby Boxster in future.

As for the Boxster’s under the hood credentials, Porsche is believed to be working with a revised version of a 3.4 liter six cylinder engine rated at 310 HP. Porsche is also rumored to be making use of an advanced six cylinder engine which though will have the same power output as the Boxster’s current four cylinder 2.9 liter unit. No matter what the engine will be, the set up will be completed with a short-throw six speed manual or Porsche’s trade mark seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission.
