2013 Chevrolet Malibu’s new Ecotec: Official Engine Info

by Zack Colt

2013 model year Chevrolet Malibu is close to be full-market released, with a brand new powerplant. It will have next variant in General Motor’s stable of high-tech four cylinder engines, and will go on with the Ecotech family. Chevrolet engineers have given their best in making the new engine as quiet and efficient as possible.

The new Ecotech engine will have 2.5 liters, and will deliver 190 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque; both of which are higher than the current 2.4 liter Ecotec’s ratings. It is expected to achieve over 30 mpg on the highway, due to the fact that Malibu’s aerodynamically potent physiquealso had a saying in the making of this car. Technologies such as a variable-displacement oil pump and an actively controlled thermostat, reduced internal friction by 16 percent, and during the variable valve timing nothing except smooth power should be felt, due to the cam phasing.
A much more refined and soft engine is completed by double overhead camshafts and direct injection.

Mike Anderson, the GM’s global chief engineer, the new 2.5 liter is 40 percent quieter than the 2.4 liter reason for which the second shall be replaced.

“Engineers also tuned the 2.5L to deliver more of its torque at lower rpm, giving the Malibu a stronger feel at launch and during on-demand maneuvers, such as passing or accelerating on a freeway entrance ramp.”
