Following the debut of the 2013 Lexus GS 350 at Pebble Beach, the Japanese car maker decided that it’s time for it’s bigger, hybrid brother to take the stage. Lexus revealed its 2013 GS 450h ahead of the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show.

The GS 450h takes its power from a 3.5-liter V-6 sporting an Atkinson Cycle valve timing, direct injection, 13:1 compression ratio and mid-port intake tumble generator.

This car features a powering system composed from a 3.5-litre DOHC V6, a permanent magnet synchronous motor and a Nickel-Metal Hydride battery, resulting a total output of 338 HP, all of which get sent to the rear wheels through an E-CVT – Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission. Thanks to all these, this car can spint from 0 to 60mph in just 5.6 seconds, which is pretty good for a hybrid. No details about fuel consumption were released, but expect an improvement of 30 percent when compared to the previous generation.

The 2013 Lexus GS 450h can be driver in five different modes (Normal, Eco, Sport S, Sport S+ and EV) and its top speed is electronically limited to 131 mph.

The 2013 hybrid model features some special styling features, including the high and low beam LED lamps in a single horizontal row, the three-lamp design that aligns the turn signal, while the rear bumper of the GS 450h covers the exhaust pipe apertures.

As for the interior, is pretty similar with the GS 350’s interior. Still, there are some notable differences between these two model including a bamboo-finished steering wheel and the hybrid monitor display.

“The all-new GS 450h will provide our customers with an exciting blend of performance and precision in a new hybrid package”, said Lexus vice president and general manager in the US, Mark Templin. “With its dynamic exterior styling, roomy interior and advanced technology features, the GS 450h further demonstrates Lexus’ mastery of the luxury hybrid.”
