MINI range is growing fast. Here is a new second model version of the recently launched third-generation MINI hatch, the five door.
This all new five-door model is all about offering little more room with the addition of two extra doors, increased wheelbase by 72 mm to a total of 2567 mm.
Along with an extended wheelbase, the new five-door model also has an increased length by 161 mm now at 4005 mm, and the height is also increased by 11 mm to 1425 mm.
These are pretty big changes, but it is still a very small car and the rear area is mostly suitable for kids and small adults, though the rear legroom and foot space is up by 72 mm while headroom has increased by 15 mm. A big difference, but those who have driven or sit at the back of a three-door model know how small it is.
In addition cargo area at the trunk is up by 67 liters at 278 liters or up to 941 liters with the rear seat down.
Engine line-up has no big news as it carries over from the standard model:
3-cylinder 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo with 136 hp & 220 Nm
3-cylinder 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo diesel with 116 hp & 270 Nm in the Cooper D
4-cylinder 2.0-liter TwinPower turbo diesel with 170 hp & 360 Nm in the Cooper SD
4-cylinder 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo with 192 hp & 280 Nm (300 Nm with power boost) in Cooper S
transmission choices include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed Steptronic or a Steptronic sports unit.
Production will start this fall with deliveries soon after. In UK the base price is £15,900 GBP. Pricing for other markets will be announced soon.
