Porsche recently unveiled new range topping Boxster and Cayman GTS with 335 and 325 horsepower respectively. These numbers put both the Boxster and Cayman GTS very close to where the base 911 Carrera is with its 350 horsepower, but in a more compact and some say even in a better looking package.
For some time rumors about a possible hardcore Cayman GT4 have been circulating the web and here is our first proof, showing a Cayman GT4 (or GT3 as Porsche has not confirmed the production model name) prototype with a big rear wing testing in Germany near the Nürburgring race track.
In addition to a big GT3 style rear wing we get to see a new deep front spoiler and bigger air intakes similar to the 911 GT3.
These are not the only changes. Just like the bigger 911 GT3, this new track oriented model will be much lighter and more agile on the track than the standard Cayman.
Power is expected to come from the same 3.4-liter flat six engine updated to produce around 370-380 horsepower. A GT3-derived PDK transmission is also very likely to be part of the formula. A hybrid powertrain is also rumoured using a turbo flat four and an electric motor, though it is unlikely to happen with this generation.
The Cayman GTS is expected to arrive in 2-3 years with pricing to start from around $125,000 (90,000 EUR).
