BMW currently has just one roadster in production, the Z4. Rumors about a more compact Z2 have been around for years and reportedly BMW is moving on with the idea and the production version could debut sometimes in 2016 or 2017.
Talented “automotive manipulator” Theophilus Chin has envisioned how the potential BMW Z2 could look like using the Zagato Roadster concept as its basis.
We like what Theophilus has created again, but if rumors are true about its platform then we are really confused.
Word on the street is that Z2 will ride on the UKL platform with a rather controversial front-wheel drive layout. Yes a BMW roadster with a front-wheel drive. Part of my wants to scream out loud that this is not a men’s car or an enthusiast roadster.
The car will reportedly weigh 1,134 kg (2,500 lbs) and use a soft top instead of a heavier metal roof as the Z4.
Engines are expected to be shared with the MINI Cooper and BMW 2-Series Active Tourer.
Top of the range Z2 M could use a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with around 300 hp sent to an all-wheel drive system. That we like!
