A 25-car pileup is shutting a portion of Interstate 20 in Ward County, Texas, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to DPS, the closure is at mile marker 83 westbound, and the road will remain shut down for several hours.

DPS initially reported an 8-car-pileup in the area, which has now grown significantly. DPS is discouraging travel of any kind on Sunday as conditions worsen throughout the Permian Basin.

The Texas Department of Transportation also prompted residents to avoid the roadways saying I-20 from Odessa to Pecos is virtually impassable because of winter conditions.
