Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura passed away in an auto accident in the Dominican Republic Sunday morning, as per Cristian Moreno of ESPN. Ventura was 25 years old.
Jacobo Mateo Moquete, a nation police colonel in the Dominican Republic, verified in a tweet that Ventura passed away in the crash. He shared images from the scene, which we’ll caution you, are graphic. The Royals have since validated Ventura’s death, as per MLB.com’s Jeffrey Flanagan.
Ventura made his debut in 2013 for the Royals.
Unfortunately, Ventura is the 2nd active major league player who has actually died over the last 5 months. Previously, Marlins ace Jose Fernandez died in a boating accident on September 25.
