Chrysler announced 575,000 Jeeps and minivans will be recalled for brake line and wiring defects.
Chrysler recalled 288,968 Jeep Wranglers for 2001 through 2010 in order to repair a problem caused when liners inside the fenders touch right-front and left-rear brake lines. NHTSA says this defect lead to wear that may cause fluid to leak and improve the chances of a crash. The good news is that accidents or injuries related to the fluid leak were not reported. “A brake fluid leak can cause partial loss of service brakes at the affected wheel, increasing the risk of a crash,” NHTSA said in the statement.
A total of 284,831 Dodge Grand Caravans and Chrysler Town & Country models have also been recalled because of ill-fitted wiring that poses a fire risk.
Around 25,336 Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass models are also being recalled for problems with a sticking accelerator pedal.
About 28,976 Jeep Wranglers for model years between 2007 and 2010 were named in the Canadian recall because the vehicles could experience leaking brake fluid, leading to break failure.
Last week Chrysler recalled 35,000 Dodge Caliber vehicles worldwide over sticky acceleration pedals.
