The 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show is almost open, so automakers are starting to offer details with what will de on display at their stands from September. After released a teaser image of the 4C sports car, Alfa Romeo Company has unveiled what’s destined to be one of the most popular attractions at next month’s 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, a new version of the stunning 4C mid-engine sport car concept.
The new car comes with some subtle updates, a new and exclusive ‘fluid metal’ exterior color that enhances the already smooth and sinuous lines of the car.
While the engine delivers more than 200 horsepower, this vehicle’s weight is confirmed at around 1,875 pounds, so the weight to power ratio is less than nine pounds per horsepower. It’s light and powerful enough for a top end over 155mph and 0-62mph in less than 5.0sec, predicts Alfa.
In addition comes the extra-light materials and technology derived from the 8C Competizione. These include carbon fiber, aluminum, rear-wheel drive and technology from Alfa models currently on sale, such as its turbocharged 1.75-liter four-cylinder engine borrowed the Mito GTA hot hatch.
That lavish material mix will swell the showroom price to around £40,000, but we still predict long queues once production starts in late 2012.
Sergio Marchionne, Fiat’s CEO, has promised the Alfa Romeo 4C will hit the European showrooms in the first half of next year, while the US market might get its hands on the first units in late 2012. Stay tuned for new details and pictures of the 4C direct from the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, press days for which kick off on September 13.
