Before this, a convertible version of Alfa Romeo’s 4C coupe had been spotted quite a number of times. Now, this particular vehicle model from the Italian automaker is reportedly coming to the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit this year. Believed to be coming as the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, the car will not be too much different when compared to its coupe counterpart, save for the foldable roof.
As an example to start with, let’s take a peek at the engine that this convertible will boast under its hood. The engine is exactly the same one as that used by the coupe. It is a 1.75L 4-cylinder engine which, when compared with a 6-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT), is capable of boasting 236 hp of power output when the engine reaches its peak performance level. It is also estimated that this convertible version of the Alfa Romeo 4C model will take just 4.5 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h. The top speed of the vehicle is rated at 250 km/h.
Yet, when it comes to the folding roof, which turns out to be a soft top, the Italian automaker takes advantage of a largely sized single rollover bar made of the carbon fiber material. Thanks to this, the convertible will reportedly weigh in just slightly above its coupe counterpart, by some 60 kg.
Unfortunately, there is a drawback, too. Due to the company having to get rid of the vehicle’s fixed roof, it is now no longer possible to give the car the headlights once previewed on the concept version of this vehicle model. For those who remember correctly, the concept was shown back in the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. Last but not least, the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Concept will also have carbon fiber air intakes installed on its side skirts.
