Audi improves range of A3 Cabriolet with turbocharged 1.2L TFSI

by Sebastian Bivin

Audi fits the A3 Cabriolet for their European market with the smallest displacement petrol powerplant in their current lineup to improve its range. Under the hood of the A3 Cabriolet will be a turbocharged 1.2 TFSI that uses direct injection technology. The new engine provides the same 105 horsepower as its older naturally aspirated 1.6L cousin that it replaces. Torque is also 27 Nm more at 175Nm.

The power of the new engine is transferred to the wheels via manual gearbox with six speeds. The Audi A3 Cabriolet can go from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 12.2 seconds and can go for a top speed of 190 km/hr. Its older sibling lags behind at 12.5 seconds for the 0 to 100 rush and is a bit slower at 183 km/h top speed.
Despite the jump in the performance department, Audi was able to boost the fuel mileage of the A3 Cabriolet to 41.3 mpg by UK standards or a jump of 9.2mpg UK from its older version. The CO2 has also been decreased to 132 g/km or lower by 35 g/km compared to the older A3 Cabriolet.

Audi started to receive orders for the new A3 Cabriolet last week in UK. The sticker price starts at £19,985 for the standard with options to go for the S line or the Sport trim.
