About 304,149 units of automobiles were sold in Vietnam in 2021, an increase of 3 percent year-on-year, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA).
Sales of domestically assembled automobiles declined 10 percent to some 168,400 units, while those of imported ones increased 24 percent from the previous year to almost 135,800, according to VAMA.
In December 2021, the consumers in the country bought 46,759 units, an increase of 21 percent from November and a reduction of 2.3 percent year-on-year.
People’s demand remained at a high level despite Covid-19. The sales can be attributed to promotion programs by suppliers and new policy on registration fee decrease, leading to better automobile sales in the past few months.
In 2021, the country spent almost 8.7 billion U.S. dollars on importing completely-built automobiles and parts for assembly, posting a year-on-year increase of 36.2 percent, according to the country’s General Statistics Office.
