B&B Automobiltechnik has recently developed a three-stage power kit based on the 2014 Volkswagen Golf R.
The Volkswagen Golf VII R already comes fitted with a very powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine developing 300 HP (221 kW) and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque but the engineers at B&B decided to improve these numbers by creating a power kit for the all-wheel drive range-topping Golf. The upgrade program starts out with a stage 1 kit costing 1,298 EUR increasing output to 360 HP (265 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) by lifting the charging air pressure and remapping the electronic injection characteristic map.
Next is stage 2 priced at 3,950 EUR with output of 385 HP (283 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) obtained by reducing thermal load and installing a bigger intermediate exhaust pipe with sports catalyzer. If you go for stage 3 (9,850 EUR) kit the output further increases to 420 HP (309 kW) and 530 Nm (391 lb-ft) thanks to the tuner’s bespoke turbocharger and sports exhaust system as well as a modified air-suction system.
The stock Golf R achieves the 0-62 mph sprint in 5.1 seconds with the six-speed manual gearbox while the stage 2 kit slashes the time by 0.6s while 0-124 mph (0-200 kmph) time is reduced from 19.3 seconds to 17.5s.
