Bavarian Motor Works or more popularly known as BMW has announced the release of their new 5-series model the BMW 520i which will be priced at 77,900 US dollars. The German automaker has also said that the 520i model will be equipped with the new four cylinder, 2 liter Twin Power Turbocharged petrol engine. The car will face stiff competition from the Mercedes Benz E 220 priced at 83,300 US dollars and the recently released 2.2 Jaguar XF Diesel which costs around 79,000 US dollars.
In addition to the 2.0 liter turbo engine, BMW has employed other technologies to make the 5-series car a powerful force on the road. The BMW 520i features valvetronic variable valve control, double VANOS camshaft control and high precision fuel injection system coupled with the twin-scroll turbocharger and is expected to deliver around 135 kW power or 5,000-6,250 rpm and 270 N-m of Torque. A standard 8-speed automatic transmission will be offered with this model.
GPS navigation system, parking assists, cruise control, automatic braking function, automatic start stop function, Bluetooth, audio streaming, climate control, anti-dazzle interior mirrors, rain sensors and striking 17 inch alloy wheels are some of the standard features that will come with the BMW 520i.
BMW has said that the 520i will give a mileage of 6.4 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers despite having enough power to go from 0-100 km/h in eight seconds only. The car is also provided with emission control technologies and gives off just 149 grams of co2 per 100 kilometers. Many other luxury cars in its segment can provide 7.1 liters per 100 km but cost few thousand dollars more.
BMW is expected to release the 2012 BMW 520i and the rest of the 5-series models for sale before the end of next month.
