BMW stated it will release an 8-series model in 2018, restoring its upmarket coupe line as part of a wider strategic shift to concentration on higher-margin sports cars instead of compact vehicles.
“The 8-series Coupe will debut next year,” CEO Harald Krueger informed investors at the company’s yearly general meeting in Munich on Thursday.
“We are refreshing our whole product portfolio and reinforcing the performance side. Our strategy will focus on the high-end section, where there are margins to be earned,” Krueger stated, including that he aimed to boost revenues in the high-end segment substantially by 2020.
