The German manufacturer, BMW has just unveiled its latest creation – the new M5 F10 safety car at the Indianapolis MotoGP race. Beside this, three of the 50 M enthusiasts who have signed up for the event, have been awarded with hot laps in the new safety car, driven by M school instructorsand they also enjoyed a personal presentation of the F10 sedan by M executives.
In order to make the BMW M5 ready for Safety Car duties, the manufacturer did little more than fit a set of lights on the roof, paint it in their trademark racing livery and add a few sponsor decals on the side. They have fitted this car with a set of large 20 inch alloy wheels, a K&W coilover suspension, an Akropovic exhaust system, traditional M livery and Recaro seats.
Unfortunately, no additional information has been released yet regarding the performance of the new BMW M5 safety car. However, keep in mind that the standard model is powered by a 4.4 liter V8 engine, delivering 552 horsepower and 680 Nm of torque. This engine is matted to a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission, enabling the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.4 seconds and hitting a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph), but fitted with the M Driver’s Package, that top speed will go up at 305 km/h (190 mph).
The videos below were taken during the M5 safety car’s police escorted drive from the race track to downtown Indianapolis, where it was shown off to BMW M Experience VIPs and passerbys.
