Brand new Audi R8 bought with lottery prize money gets destroyed in fire

The Connecticut Powerball winner Rahul Patel lost his one-week old Audi R8. The sports car was believed to have been destroyed by fire. Like the old saying goes, you win some, you lose some. As luck would have it, the losing part i.e. Audi R8 was substantially low than the winning part i.e. the lottery ticket for Rahul Patel.

The Connecticut Post reports that Patel was driving the German sports car in Fairfield when he on the spur of the moment noticed smoke emitting out of the engine compartment. Rahul Patel pulled over his new Audi R8 on the side of the road and stepped out only to find his new Audi R8 go up in flames. Patel could not even figure out as to what was wrong with the two-seater sports car. All that he could do was watch in horror and disbelief as his brand new Audi R8 is gobbled up in flames. No one is reported to have been injured during the incident. However, the $140,000 R8 was ruined to ground by the flames. The investigation on the root cause of the fire is still to be affirmed by the fire officials as reported by the Connecticut post.

The 33 year old Newington resident had claimed a $25 million Powerball Jackpot prize last summer from a $1 ticket. A one-time cash lump sum was paid to Patel. He opted to take a lump sum prize amount of $12.5 million before taxes. After the federal and state taxes the prize amount was reduced to around $8.7 million.
