Did you know that the Chevrolet Corvette is not branded as Chevrolet in some parts of the world, especially in Europe? Amazed, well we are not. Yet it’s the truth. If you still do not seem to be trusting then I would just advise you to look at any Corvette. Did you notice that ’Chevrolet’ does not appear anywhere in the car. Unlike other brands under Chevrolet the Corvette, has its own twin-flag badge where the Chevrolet logo is not as featured prominently as you would have expected.
The reason for this independent branding of Corvettes sports car in Europe is that most of the Chevy vehicles sold there were of Daewoo brands. Since the Daewoo are not in the same league as that of the Corvette, General Motors decided to brand Corvettes as independent brand instead of sticking “America’s Sports Car” in a market dominated by Daewoo. Hence GM did not consider it a very good idea to promote Chevrolet in Europe.
However, General Motors has finally taken a decision to commence introducing more and more Chevrolets in European market. Soon, the Chevrolet Cruze, the Chevrolet Camaro, and the Chevrolet Corvette are going the hit the completion in European market very hard.
Mark Terry who is the managing director for Chevrolet UK has reportedly said, “The fact that they are here, in Europe, being sold as Chevrolets is the clearest indication yet of the confidence that General Motors has in the Chevrolet brand, and the direction it is headed in Europe.”
