Infiniti, the luxury division which belongs to the Japanese automaker Nissan, has now officially taken the wrap off its Concept Vision GranTurismo. As its name implies, this particular model is a digital vehicle model that the automaker has made available for the PlayStation exclusive Gran Turismo car racing game franchise. The aforementioned vehicle model is now already available for download to use in the game created by Polyphony Digital.
Despite being just a digital model, Infiniti claims that the Concept Vision GranTurismo supercar will not only act as the company’s design exercise. Instead, it will also give this Nissan’s subsidiary a clue of what kind of design language and what kind of high performance vehicles that the company can possibly come up with in the foreseeable future.
The Infiniti Concept Vision GranTurismo project initially began as a global scale competition which aimed to sketch a pure GT car with the Infiniti emblem on it. The design that eventually came up as the winner was the one created by the company’s design team based in Beijing, China.
The luxury Japanese automaker claims that the winning design has been chosen for it features detailed calculations and examinations of technical vehicle specifications, including engine performance and aerodynamics. The design also comes with a trans-axle powertrain/front mid-ship combination, which distributes the weight of the vehicle proportionally, 45:55. In terms of aerodynamics, the car excels, thanks to the bespoke rear spoiler, front and rear diffusers and also airflow control underneath the car. All of these components contribute to giving the car high performance without having to sacrifice the body design of the car itself.
For those who are curious about the car, if they own the PlayStation 3 video game console from Sony, they can already get behind the wheel of the Infiniti Concept Vision GranTurismo. The car is available for the Gran Turismo 6 racing title.
