Deutsche See has appealed against a German court’s refusal of its complaint against German automaker Volkswagen over the emissions scandal.
Deutsche See stated in February it was taking legal action against Volkswagen over malicious deception for renting diesel automobiles the automaker had said were eco-friendly. The case marked the first time that a company had taken legal action against VW in Germany since the year the scandal broke.
Deutsche See is Germany’s leading seafood company.
But the local court in Braunschweig near Volkswagen’s Wolfsburg headquarters last month turned down the Deutsche See’s lawsuit over lack of proof of legally relevant deception.
Deutsche See stated on Monday it had submitted an appeal at the Braunschweig court and stated that the automaker had avoided its multiple efforts to seek mediation.
Volkswagen is confronted with a barrage of claims from consumers, investors and regulators concerning its “Dieselgate” scandal.
Volkswagen has not commented yet.
