The Hollywood silver screen showcased some cool and high adrenaline four wheelers in the decade of 1970s. Those were the times when big collars, microwave dinners and flared set of trousers came into the spotlight in films like the Two Lane Black Top, Gone in 60 seconds and Vanishing Point. Its the Vanishing Point among the above three that certainly stands out as a classic in the decade of glamour and glitz. The story is based on a man named Kowalski played by Barry Newman who placed a bet that he is capable of driving a 1970 Dodge Challenger model from its own dealership shop in Colorado to a customer located in San Francisco in just a mere matter of 15 hours. This results in a string of street racing scenes and many conflicts in between.
Forty years have passed since the runaway hit had its first premiere and now Bob Frederick, a long time fan of the classic movie has decided to use his dealership of the New Wilmington Dodge to produce a special edition model to relive the magic and celebrate the joyous film and the legacy that it has created. The “Kowalski Edition” models have been manufactured keeping the 2011 392 Inaugural Edition Challenger SRT8 model as an inspiration since white was unavailable during this time for the standard SRT8s.
Frederick had this to say of the way things got going: “I met with the team and told them what I wanted: 2011 Challenger SRT8 392, six-speed manual, Bright White, stripe delete, Dark Slate SRT seats, WP3 Alcoa SRT aluminum [sic] 20-inch wheels, 730 Nav and SRT Option Group II…. I reminded them that the paint was already in the plant and that the unique SRT8 parts were already there in white as well, so it seemed logical that it could be done.”
There will be a unique numbered interior plaque for the model alongside the conventional customized stickers that the model comes with. The Kowalksi cars are always available with a wood grain Hurst Pistol Grip shifter and hence may be regarded as a standard accessory for the car. With all of the above news you must be very excited to get your sights if not your hands on any of these limited edition models. But unfortunately the bad news is that only 10 of these models will be produced as a part of the Vanishing Point celebration campaign.
