Most people either replace their existing Aston Martin DB9 with a DBS if they wish for an upgrade. Those with money to spare would retain their old Aston Martin DB9 and buy a new DBS and retain both. But a Russian owner of a 5 year old Aston Martin DB9 approached the tuning company Edo Competition for modifying his car to a DBS.
The German tuning company accepted the order and went to work on the Aston Martin DB9. It took six months to finish the conversion work. The steel body of the car has been replaced with lightweight carbon fiber along with many additions of many other aerodynamic parts like the front skirt that are also made of carbon fiber along with the rear diffuser. The car now has wheels of 20 inch dimensions.
Interior decoration or modification was carried out as per customer’s preferences. The Russian desired for Alcantara / leather upholstery with insets of carbon fiber and metal accents. A high end audio system has also been installed in the car.
Modifications have also been effected on the mechanical systems of the car in line with with customer request.
The existing 5.9 liter V12 engine of the DB 9 has been modified to give 550 hp output from the existing 470 hp. The pickup speeds also have therefore changed to read 0 to 100 kmph, that’s 62 mph, in 4.1 seconds flat. The present top speed of the original DB9 which was 295 kmph (183 mph) has also been raised to 320 kmph (199 mph).
Other changes include the addition of a programmable control unit for the exhaust system and the sport suspension is now adjustable ones. New braking system has been incorporated by the addition of 405 mm discs and 6 piston calipers up front and 380 mm discs, 4 piston calipers at the rear. All this completes the transformation process of the DB9 to a DBS.
