It is known to one and all that the eagerly awaited next car from Hyundai, the Veloster coupe will be unveiled at the 2011 edition of the Detroit Motor Show. With this unveiling auto lovers can get to the thick of things of how the car is and what does it look like? But what if we give you a bit of a sneak peek before the show itself? Well we have got it all here. Carscoop has caught the European version of the car red handed running on the streets of Germany undisguised. Some surprise ahead of the hugely hyped release in March.
Well the differences between the European and the American models that you might expect will be the use of clear indicators up front, all red tail lamps at the rear of the car and the brand new styling of the alloy wheels. But what was unfortunate for us that our sources could not get a close up view of the car and hence we are unable to provide any information about the car’s interiors. But all is expected to be similar other than the trim of the car and the options of shades that the company will provide.
Until now we were unknown to the fact about what kind of engine the European model of Veloster will be based on. But we have got some official news from our sources that the European Veloster will be available in two gasoline engines provided with a turbocharged four banger, which is more of a flagship for Hyundai. We expect some good performance from this configuration of the car.
The European Launch of Veloster will have the standard 1.6 liter direct injection four banger similar to that of the NA-spec model, which will produce an output power of 140 HP and an output peak torque of 167 Nm. All these great configurations will take the car for a ride of 100km/h (62mph) from rest in a time of just under 10 seconds.
The European model of Veloster will also have a Blue Edition variant which will have a combination of the 140 HP engine along with a start stop system. The car will also be efficient in green terms with better fuel economy and lesser carbon dioxide emissions with a drop from 138 g/km to 129 g/km.
But the icing on the cake is still yet to come. The best part of the Veloster lineup will be the 1.6 liter turbocharged four cylinder engine with direct injection technology that will be producing an output power of 208 HP. Well that’s something! And it will reflect in the 0-100 km/h sprint as well. The car races off the distance within a matter of 7 seconds. But Hyundai has still kept mum on the fact that when this car will actually come to the Americas.
Most European countries will see a start in the sales by the month of April this year and UK in the next quarter very probably. The Veloster 1.6 Turbo will hit the showrooms by early next year in 2012.
