Ferrari prepares for the 2011 F1 Season

A Formula 1 car is more than just an engine and four wheels. One of the key elements of such a car, is the chassis. In order for the chassis to be mounted on the car, it has to pass several crash tests. The chassis for the 2011 racer of the Scuderia Ferrari has passed the tests and now the Italian car maker can proceed with the construction of the car. But, making the successor of the F10 challenger is not that easy, mainly because the 2011 model will have a modified chassis in terms of construction and composite materials.

It has been reported by the Italian media that the materials that Ferrari is using for this new chassis are more extreme. It seems that Ferrari’s crash test chief Davide Terletti had to investigate a crack that opened on the surface of the monocoque.

But the small crack was not enough to cause the chassis to fail the tests. These mandatory monocoque tests are conducted under FIA guidelines and in the presence of an official observer at the CSI technical facility in Bollate, near Milan. There will be more crash test but done on other parts of the car, not only in the chassis.
