Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV and Cummins Inc stated on Monday they will battle a class-action suit submitted against the companies alleging them of unfaithful on diesel emissions tests.
On Monday, legal representatives representing owners of older 2500 and 3500 Dodge Ram trucks submitted a class-action lawsuit in U.S. District Court located in Detroit, asserting the companies “conspired to purposefully deceive customers and regulators of illegally high levels of diesel emissions in their automobiles”.
The lawsuit alleges the car manufacturers of scams, breaching the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act and consumer-protection laws by deliberately deceiving the general public, hiding emissions levels and unlawfully offering noncompliant polluting automobiles.
The suit submitted by Seattle legal representative Steve Berman stated the emissions catalysts are not long lasting and do not satisfy emission requirements, and that at times emissions are almost 10 times legal limits.
The class action lawsuit comes as Fiat Chrysler and Cummins are contesting the expenses of an emissions remember involving a various, more recent population of trucks.
Fiat Chrysler stated in a declaration it “does not believe that the claims brought against it are meritorious” and the company “will contest this lawsuit intensely.”
Cummins representative Jon Mills said the lawsuit “has no benefit. We are clearly disappointed in the effort to stain our image and we plan to vigorously safeguard ourselves.”
The suit includes owners of 2007– 2012 Dodge Ram 2500 and 2007– 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup.
