Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV said Friday it is recalling over 320,000 Dodge Dart compact cars in North America that could roll away due to a problematic part that could allow the shift cable to disconnect from the transmission.
The automaker stated the recall spans 2013 through 2016 model year automatic transmission Dart cars and that the issue could prevent motorists from shifting vehicles into park. The company stated it is not aware of any crashes or injuries associated with the issue but has several thousand reports of related fixes to automobiles. The company stated a cable bushing may degrade after long-term exposure to high ambient heat and humidity.
The company stated owners should ensure they shut off the vehicle and engage the parking brake. Fiat Chrysler will change the transmission side shifter cable bushing, the company stated.
The company did not state when repairs will be ready.
The recall spans about 298,000 U.S. vehicles, 20,117 in Canada, 3,400 in Mexico and about 900 outside of North America.
Fiat Chrysler put production of the Dart to an end in 2016.
