Fire Hazard: Acura recalls over 167,000 TSX sedans

by Ron Grant

167,255 units to be exact. That is the number of Acura TSX models from 2004 to 2008 being recalled in the United States by the Japanese carmaker because of a possible fire hazard. These units are fitted with the 2.4L inline-four engine where the hose of the power steering may prematurely deteriorate leading to fluid leaks and possible fire in the engine bay.

Honda issued a notice posted on the website of the US NHTSA or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

This latest recall follows the one done for about 1,850 units of the crossovers of the Acura ZDX two weeks ago due to possible problems with the airbag.

The car manufacturer also promised that it will contact owners of the TSX so they can go to a dealer and have their cars repaired for free. The repair job will involve replacement of the hose for the power steering, put in a new o-ring gasket, and change the power steering fluid.

The recall is scheduled to be executed around May 28.

If you own an Acura TSX or want more information about the recall, you can contact Acura through 1800-382-2238.
