China has recently launched the China New Car Assessment Program or C-NCAP and among the cars that has been put through the rigors is the Buick New Regal from Shanghai General Motors that has been accorded the five-star safety rating, the highest a car can earn.

For side impact crash tests performed against a dynamic deformable barrier, the Buick earned 16 points and got a commendable 15.03 out of 16 for front impact crash tests. The China Automotive Technology and Research Center also informed that the Buick again scored an impressive 15.65 out of 16 points in 40% front offset crash test. And for standard features like front seat seat-belt alert mechanism, side air bags and side curtain air bags, along with the ISOFIX anchoring system for child safety seats, the new Buick has been given 3 points. When asked to comment on the rating that the new Buick earned, GM China Group President and Managing Director Kevin Wale has only this to say, “Pleased but not surprised.”

Kevin is of the view that occupant safety is the top most priority at GM for all vehicles produced for the Chinese market. He further added that the design and occupant restraint systems of the Buick New Regal complies with all existing as well as future safety regulation prevalent anywhere in the world.
