Ford introduces an eco-friendly Focus with CO2 emissions of 99 g/km

Ford has recently announced its plans to offer an eco-friendly version of Focus which will have CO2 emissions of less than 100.

Expected to become the first petrol-powered family car in Europe to offer CO2 emissions of 99g/km, the model has a 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine that produces 100 HP (73 kW). In terms of fuel efficiency, the model has returned up to 67.5 mpg UK (4.1 L/100km / 56.2 mpg US) at the time of testing.

The car comes equipped with features such as an active shutter grille, underbody aerodynamics, low-rolling resistance tires, regenerative brakes, an engine start/stop system and optimized gearing.

Obviously the Ford’s Vice President of European Product Development, Barb Samardzich was pretty excited and was quoted saying, “Just a couple of years ago few would have thought that a medium-sized petrol car could break the 100g/km CO2 barrier.†He further stated, “Ford’s 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine has a habit of taking expectations of what a petrol engine can deliver and turning them upside down.â€

This eco friendly Focus will go on sale early next year in 2014 and the pricing is expected to be revealed somewhere around the launch. It is a great break through by Ford and a positive move towards saving the environment and it gets big thumbs up from us.
