The German car maker Porsche unveiled its all-new 911 at this month’s Frankfurt Motor Show, but they just can’t sit for a while to enjoy recent success so Porsche is taking another step in front of its competition and it is already mulling the addition of a hybrid version of its iconic sportscar.
Although the German manufacturer didn’t say when a hybrid powered 911 will hit the market, it’s still talking about the technology through the voice of the head of Motorsport, Hartmut Kristen.
The brand published on their official YouTube channel an interview taken from Hartmut Kristen at the Frankfurt Motor Show in which the executive is comparing the 911 GT3 RS to the racing version that took part at the 24 Hour Nurburgring. During this interview, he explaining how a 2009 MY RSR racer’s 4.0-liter engine was borrowed by the street-legal 911 GT3RS 4.0 (997 generation – the outgoing one).
While this technology will be implemented on the 911 for the first time, he thinks that the road-going models will be invaded by hybrid developments. In addition to that, Hartmut Kristen said that the other models in the Porsche’s lineup will borrow it right after that.
Concluding, we can say that despite the fact that the 911 is still keeping the exterior same shape over the years, the technology under its body will change pretty soon. This way the 911 becomes more efficient in CO2 emissions and fuel consumption while the performance will increase.
