Honda recalls 350,083 Civics due to brake defect

Honda is recalling 350,083 of its brand-new 2016 Civics as the electric parking brake may not engage when the engine is switched off, causing the possibility that the car could roll away and crash.

It’s not unusual for new designs to be recalled, however the pullback does not assist the revamped Civic, which has been a sales hit in an otherwise sluggish compact-car market.

The recall includes Civics with both the 1.5-liter turbo and 2-liter engines.

Although a large number of cars are included, Honda says no crashes have taken place as a result. The concern was discovered by analyzing warranty claims. Honda says it found 342 cases where the problem happened.

The problem can be repaired with a software update, Honda informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in files.

The problem includes software in the automobile stability control system. Honda states it is set in such a method that it avoids the electric parking brake from being applied. The problem occurs when the motorist tries to apply the brake after the engine is turned off.

The brake caution light will indicate there’s a problem to drivers. And the defect does not appear if the brake is applied prior to the engine being turned off.
