Infiniti Q50 Extended Wheelbase announced for China

Infiniti has recently made an announcement of its plans to build a long wheelbase version of the Q50 in China. The model will be built at the company’s Xiangyang plant in the Hubei Province alongside the QX50 crossover.

The decision has been taken with a view to give importance to growing vehicle market in China. The company has also stated that both the models will be customized as per the requirements of the Chinese market and the production is slated to start anywhere in 2014.

Infiniti President Johan de Nysschen stated that China was a key market in Infiniti’s growth strategy and the decision to offer two vehicles specifically designed for the Chinese market and also produce them locally was an evidence of their globalization strategy.

Infiniti also showcased the new Q50 model which will be offered with a hybridized 3.5-liter V6 engine as well as a naturally-aspirated 3.7-liter V6 engine which will be able to generate 328 bhp (244 kW) and 269 lb-ft (364 Nm) of torque. The model is expected to go on sale in China in the spring of 2014.

The vehicle base and market in China has been growing rapidly and Infiniti has also realized the same and like many other companies they also want to ensure that they gain the market share and take the maximum advantage of the growth scenario.
