Jaguar is the center of attraction at 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed

by Alex

Jaguar is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its legendary E-type model and this makes it one more reason for the British luxury carmaker to have a greater role to play at the launching of the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Yasmin Le Bon with her daughter Amber posed alongside the now famous E-type. This was the same car that had done a high speed journey that covered the distance between Coventry to Geneva in March 1961. It was at Sir William Lyons’ behest that this journey had taken place. The registration number of the car was ’77 RW’ and the Chief Test Driver, Norman Dewis had delivered the prototype Series One E-type roadster.

The present 2011 Jaguar XKR-S would have Mike Cross who is the Chief Engineer of Vehicle Integrity, behind the wheel. The celebrations would be marked by runs of the car up the Goodwood hill. There would also be Anthony Reid, ex-Le Mans and BTCC racer also taking part in the event. Anthony has a unique driving style that is enthusiastic to quite an extent and got him the TAG Heuer ‘Most Spirited Getaway’ award. A sculpture is also being created by Jaguar to be placed at the front of Goodwood House.

There would be Jaguars of the past and present both that adorn the event with the samples like XK120, C-, D- and E- type participating in demonstration runs for the crowd to view. June 30 is the scheduled date of the event and the beginning would be marked with the Moving Motor Show where Jaguars would be paraded for the public to view.
