Now it looks like the best time for Lexus to introduce a three-row version of its RX crossover. Not just CUVs flying off of dealership lots– as you probably already know, the RX is Lexus’ best-selling model– there aren’t all that lots of car-based high-end soft-roaders on the market for Lexus to take on. Issue is, these things require time, and product coordinators do not always get the new-model cadence perfect. Now, however, we at least have a provisional date for the extended-wheelbase ‘ute’s arrival.

Lexus General Manager Jeff Bracken has verified that the brand prepares a three-row version of the RX with strategies to have it in the clutches of drooling dealerships by late 2017 or early 2018.

Possibilites are, the new model will use RX 350L badges in gas-powered guise and carry the RX 450hL moniker in hybrid form. As the report explain, these names were signed up as hallmarks earlier this month. That shows we’ll see both standard V6 and optional hybrid-powered variations of the three-row RX. Not just will the prolonged RX keep the same nomenclature, it’ll likewise look pretty much the same as its five-seat siblings. Bracken stated, “We put a lot energy into the styling you see now that we didn’t want to jeopardize even with the third row.”

All we need to do now is wait, said Bracken. “They would just enjoy to have it now. I think they’re rather relieved that they understand it’s coming.”
