One of the world’s top automakers from the Great Britain, McLaren Automotive, has recently let anyone in the world known that the company is actually planning new vehicle lineups. Based on reports emerging online, these new lineups will be designated towards the entry-level customers. With that being said, McLaren vehicles will be available to more people, not only the super wealthy ones. Speaking of the new entry-level vehicle models, the company is dubbing them the Sports Series.
So far, only a teaser photo has been released by the British company. However, it is believed that the Sports Series vehicle models will come out in the upcoming 2015.
The very first model that McLaren is going to slot under the Sports Series will reportedly be known as the P13. This will prove to be one of the company’s rather affordable vehicle lineups.
Still, it costs somewhere in the region of $180,000. Well, at least, that is the price if you live in one of the states in America. Yes, of course, this is far more affordable when compared to the British automaker’s 650S Coupe. For the latter, you will have to spend $270,000 at the minimum.
Before McLaren eventually releases an official teaser photo of the P13, there have actually been quite a few spy photos swirling around the internet. Judging by these spy photos, the McLaren P13 apparently owes some of its styling cues to the McLaren P1 as well as the McLaren 650S.
However, the P13 will sport a unique set of taillights, a new design for its rear diffuser and side vents that are narrower than both its aforementioned brothers. The P13, however, will have the butterfly doors left intact.
The British company is describing its new vehicle model as a pure McLaren vehicle. There are also reasons to believe that the car will pack a 3.8L V8 engine with twin turbochargers inside its engine bonnet. The engine will be detuned, though, to produce less than 600 hp of power output.
This is to give some space between the P13 and its bigger brother, the McLaren 625C.
For full reveal of the McLaren P13, it is perhaps best for you to attend the 2015 New York International Auto Show that will be held starting from April 1, 2015. It is believed that a Spider version of the vehicle will also be available shortly after.
After all being said, if McLaren is to offer an affordable model like the P13, what will happen to the brand’s image of exclusivity? Well, for this, the British brand has confirmed that it plans to sell only 2,000 units of the P13 and this, the company believes, will not affect the company’s exclusive image in a negative way.
