Mercedes is seriously considering scrapping its short wheelbase version (SWB) of the G-Class Series, which enjoys an iconic stature in the company’s history. As a final wave of good bye the company though is coming up with a limited production model appropriately named the ‘BA3 Final version.’ The phasing out model would also be joined by their new entrant, the long-wheelbase model named the “Edition Select” which will be based on the G500.

The car would come in two variants of engine fit being named the G350 Blue TEC and the G 500. Both variants would have a number of other notable features otherwise part of AMG package such as the flared wheel arches painted in the same color as the rest of the vehicle, radiator grille with chrome highlights, 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels, stainless-steel running boards and spare wheel cover. Some of the other features that the cars would have are an electric sunroof, metallic paintwork, parking radar and a tire pressure monitoring system.

For interior the SWB models would have ventilated and heated front seats made up in black leather, burr walnut wood trim and highlights of chrome on the gearshift lever, seat adjustment controls and loudspeakers fitted on to the front doors. There would also be mobile phone package, rubber floor mats and a load compartment cover with additional stowage boxes as standard fit.

Price of the car in Germany would be €90,511 for the 211 HP G 350 Blue TEC “BA3 Final Edition” which is $134,500 and the 388 HP G 500 version would cost €100,686 ($149,600).

The long-wheelbase model from Mercedes would be fitted with the V8 engine and come in two tone paintwork, with the bumpers, AMG side flaps and exterior mirrors finished in obsidian black metallic. To add further contrast effect upon the car the makers have made the running boards in stainless steel as well as the spare wheel cover and there is also the black 18-inch alloy wheels for the contrast effect. Carbon fiber inserts on the protective strips, underbody protection and an AMG sports exhaust system are the other exterior elements that the car boasts of.

The interior is made up of porcelain and black designo leather which gives not only a stylish look to the interior but can also be considered a continuation of the two tone effect seen on the exterior of the car. The trim is of desingo black wood which is a carryover from the “BA3 Final Edition” as well as the Chrome package from that model. Black leather has been used for lining the dashboard, armrest, door handles and brake lever while gathered leather has been used for the inner door panels. Other standard fit of the car are the 12 speaker, 450-watt Harman Kardon Logic7 surround sound system, the crash-responsive Neck-Pro head restraints and stainless steel door sill panels.

Cost of the “Edition Select” is €6,735 ($10,000) more that the price of LWB G-Class models in Germany.
