There is good news for those who’d like to move fast, really fast. For Porsche is all set to unleash its GT2 RS, which is perhaps the most powerful factory built street legal car ever to be made.
So just how fast is it? Porsche is looking at a lap time of 7:22 at the ‘Ring and to help the car achieve that, the German sports car maker has equipped the GT2 with a twin-turbocharged flat six with a max power output that is in the range of 600 hp. In fact, it could even surpass the 605 hp that the V10 Carrera GT is capable of.
Externally, there is not much that can differentiate the GT2 RS from the GT3. So, there is the similar center-lock alloys, nose intake with a hood-forward stance, mild front fender flares, a stripped interior along with door pulls as an alternative to handles along with a full roll cage.
Performance enhancements would come in the form of adding a fully adjustable suspension to the corners, carbon-ceramic brakes, exhaust made of titanium, and active drive train mounts. With that include the generous use of carbon fiber in almost every conceivable place like the wing, vents, and any potential add-ons to make sure there is no unnecessary weight on board.
Continuing with the discussion on weight of the car, the GT2 RS already enjoys an advantage over the Turbo with its weight what with it being a real wheel drive car. Take into account the carbon fiber and an optional lithium ion battery which if included will probably cost about $1,700, what you get is 90kg weight advantage for the GT2 RS over its predecessors.
However, one rumor that is doing the rounds is that the RS will be the only car that buyers looking for a second generation 997 GT2 can opt for. If the rumor indeed proves to be true then it can mean bad news for the plain jane GT2 because at a price of around $300,000, the GT2 RS is way out of the Turbo S territory to perhaps justify the annihilation of the plain GT2.
