Mercedes Benz dealer outlets are not expected to get the new CLS model before the end of Jan 2011. Not to be hurdled by this fact, Carlsson, the German tuning company have already come up with a tuning package for this banana shaped sports saloon.
A very extensive effort has been put in by the tuner to affect the aerodynamic features of the car. The package includes a restyled front bumper that incorporates a lip spoiler and LED fog lights, side skirts, a rear apron with a built in diffuser and space for the new rectangular-shaped tail pipes, and a boot lid spoiler.
There is also the new grille and bonnet with power domes that makes up the package as well as side air outlets and the whole set up complemented by a set of alloy wheels.
Alcantara sports steering wheel pedal and foot rest of brushed aluminum along with unique floor mats featuring the firm’s logo with a matching boot cover makes up the interior additions that come in the package.
For the engine upgrade there are packages for both the CLS 350 CGI petrol and 350 CDI V6 diesel models. In case of the V6 petrol engine the CK35 kit lifts the power from the existing 306 HP and 370 Nm to 333HP and 410Nm. With this the car is able to reach 100 kmph that is 62 mph from standing still in 5.9 seconds from the previous rating of 6.1 seconds.
The diesel engine 350 CDI in the base model has a rating of 265 HP and 650 Nm. The tuning firm has the C-Tronic DIESEL POWER electronic tune which when added boosts the power to 320HP and 780Nm. The diesel version of the car with the package therefore can do the 0 to 100 kmph run in 5.9 seconds bettering its previous specification of 6.2 seconds for the same run.
There is also the C-Tronic Suspension system that can lower the vehicle’s ride height by up to 30 mm, which is a Carlsson patented item. The system is also capable of adjusting the spring travel depending on the road conditions and does so on a continuous basis.
