Just about a year after the unveiling of the refreshed Q7 during the auto show in Shanghai in 2009, Audi is giving the luxury SUV with an update by introducing three V6 engine options paired with a tiptronic transmission with 8 speeds.
The diesel and gasoline engine variants make use of a combo of direct fuel injection technology and forced induction. An energy recuperation system also comes standard with the 2011 Q7.
The 3.0L TFSI will be made available in two versions of the supercharged V6 engine. One version will be the basic powerplant that takes the place of the 272 horsepower 3.6 FSI with 95 lb-ft of torque that speeds the Q7 from 0 to 100 km/hr in just 7.9 seconds. The top speed of this version is 222 km/hr or 225 km/hr when the adaptive air suspension is utilized.
The more aggressive 3.0 TFSI replaces the V8 4.2 FSI which gives out 333 HP and about 324.53 lb-ft of torque. This engine brings the Q7 from 0 to 100 in 6.9 seconds with top speed of 243 km/hr without the adaptive air suspension and 245 with the system.
The updated Audi Q7 also has an option for the V6 3.0L turbocharged diesel engine that is about 20 kilos lighter than the outgoing TDI 3.0 engine at 198 kg. This diesel engine gives out 240 horsepower and about 406 lb-ft of torque. It can zoom the Q7 from 0 to 100 in 7.9 seconds. Top speed is pegged at 215 km/hr. The fuel mileage of the SUV returns an improved figure of 7.4L/100 km or about 19% better than its older sibling.
Audi will also be offering a Clean Diesel version of the V6 TDI 3.0L engine that will be able to meet the stricter Euro 6 standards. This powerplant makes use of a DeNox catalytic converter to decrease harmful emissions by using an additive. The Clean Diesel version has an output of 240 horsepower and a top speed of 25 km/hr.
Audi also tried to improve the 4.2L TDI by installing fuel injection that can decrease internal friction. The output is unchanged at 340 HP but the torque was improved by 30 lb ft to 590 l-ft. This engine takes the Q7 from 0 to 100 km/hr in 6.4 seconds and gives it a top speed of 242 km/hr.
All engines for the Q7 come with a tiptronic transmission technology that saves as much as 5% of fuel.
