The new Mercedes Benz S-Class marks its world premiere with extended innovations at the 2017 Shanghai Motor Show. Among the headlines is an all-new and highly effective engine range with an array of new technologies for electrification of the powertrain. Intelligent Drive took another move step towards autonomous driving. And the acclaimed leader in the premium segment concerning the comfort and wellness sets new standards in the interior. The market launch of the new S-Class begins in the European markets in July.
Numerous new engines are scheduled for the new S-Class: in-line six cylinders as diesel and petrol engines along with a new V-8 biturbo petrol engine. Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz plans a plug-in hybrid with an electric range of an estimated 50 kilometres. At the same moment, ground-breaking innovations such as the 48-volt Integrated Starter Alternator and the electric booster compressor commemorate their world premiere.
Seeing the top-of-the-range model of Mercedes-Benz, DISTRONIC Active Proximity Control and Active Steer Assist now offer much more comfortable support for the motorist to maintain a safe distance and steer. The speed is now modified automatically ahead of curves or junctions.
MULTIBEAM LED headlamps and ULTRA RANGE High Beam are able to make night into day. ROAD SURFACE SCAN, the forward-looking detection of bumps, and the curve-tilting function CURVE are some other unique functions of the S-Class in the sector of luxury saloons.
It should be noted that ENERGIZING comfort control is a world-first entering series production, the optional function connects various comfort systems in the vehicle together, consisting of climate control, ambience lighting, massage and fragrancing functions, and permits consumers to configure a specific wellness set-up to match their mood or demand. This improves the physical comfort and efficiency on the road.

The flagship from Mercedes-Benz was the best-selling luxury saloon last year, globally. Since 2013, the company sold more than 300,000 saloons. Presently there are six separate S-Class body variants.
