Carscoop always tends to get the right photographs at the right time. Yet again, they have successfully photographed the testing of the brand new Porsche 911 sport car. To be away from the crowd they have tested the car prototype in far away roads of South Africa instead of Germany. It was disappointing though that our cameraman failed to get a clear view of the front of 2012 MY 911 but it is assured that the styling has been inspired from the Panamera.
Although some changes have been introduced in the car, including the exterior mirrors that have been mounted on the doors quite innovatively instead of the conventional window frames, the tail lamps have been revamped to give a lower roof line, although the basic silhouette and proportions remain unchanged. The aerodynamic package has been upgraded with an active front spoiler equipped with variable air-intakes, which is believed to be in development. Well, quite something there.
The photographed car though has got little details on the interior cabin, it is assumed to have further differences with the original inspired in bits and pieces from cabins of cars like Cayenne and Panamera.
The brand new model has been codenamed as ‘991’. Although the car may look almost identical to the current generation of the 911, but in depth analysis may reveal something different. Major changes include a revised version of platform that has been increased by some inches in both length and width. The engineering team from Porsche is reported to have made proper use of exotic and lightweight materials to reduce the net weight of the car by a great deal.
The engine of the ‘911’ model has been bettered with an upgraded version of six-cylinder boxer units which boasts of being equipped with the latest technologies that include direct injection and upgraded start/stop systems designed to provide higher gains in power as well as effective reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. According to Porsche, they are going to offer two variants of the 911 model namely the Carrera and a more powerful version of the same car, the Carrera S model. The Turbo along with other versions like the GT2 and GT3 are queued in the line and are expected to come sooner or later.
Depending on the car model, the car will draw its power either in the rear wheels or to all four wheels from a standard six-speed manual gearbox. It has been combined with an optional seven-speed PDK (Porsche Doppel Kupplung) twin-clutch transmission which has been equipped with shift paddles behind the wheel.
Porsche is expected to choose Frankfurt as their location for world premiere of the car next year. Well Porsche will have no stone unturned to make this a grand event.
