Nissan Motor CEO Hiroto Saikawa failed to secure an expected meeting this week with the acting boss of alliance Renault to talk about the arrest of top executive Carlos Ghosn, a source informed Reuters on Wednesday.
Tensions have risen between Nissan and Renault since Ghosn’s arrest in Japan over allegations that he understated his earning at Nissan where he was promptly removed as chairman while Renault has kept him on as chairman and CEO.
A source informed Reuters that Saikawa, Renault Deputy CEO Thierry Bollore and Osamu Masuko, CEO of partner Mitsubishi Motors, did attend a routine operational meeting in Amsterdam on Tuesday, however Saikawa and Bollore did not meet privately.
A Nissan spokesman refused to comment.
