Opel Astra OPC EXTREME limited-run production version coming next year

by SpeedLux

An Opel spokesman has recently confirmed that a production version of the Astra OPC EXTREME concept will be introduced somewhere next year in 2015.

Opel’s hottest ever Astra is currently being displayed at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show in conceptual form but a limited production model is expected to come out sometime in 2015. This information has been confirmed by a company spokesman who also stated that Opel will build between 50 and 300 units (including right-hand drive cars), depending on demand.

The Astra OPC EXTREME concept is lighter by 100 kg (220 lbs) compared to the regular OPC variant thanks to the carbon fiber roof, wheels, hood as well as aluminum fenders. The concept also comes equipped with an uprated 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbo outputting more than 300 hp (224 kW). It has remained a front-wheel drive car and features a limited-slip differential along with a six-speed manual transmission.

The radical concept was fitted by Opel with 19-inch rims wrapped in 245/35 tires created specifically for this model which stops efficiently thanks to a Brembo braking system equipped with 370mm front discs. Also, there are no back seats in the stripped-out cabin where there are Recaro bucket seats and six-point safety belts plus a carbon fiber-reinforced steering wheel and a safety roll bar.
