Preview: 2011 SLK from Mercedes-Benz

by Ron Grant

Everyone is eagerly waiting for the 2011 SLK from Mercedes-Benz to hit dealerships. We need to wait for that until next year, for now we have bits of new info about this luxury coupe-cabriolet.

The 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLK will be getting a 2.0L engine that is capable of giving out 204 horsepower and an impressive torque of 500 Nm. The new car is dubbed as the SLK 250 CDI which is designed to meet head on competitions like the Spider 2.0 and the 2.4 JTDm from Alfa Romeo, and the TT Roadster TDI from Audi.

The SLK will also have a variant called the SLK 250 CGI which will be equipped with twin turbo 4-cylinder engine with direct injection that can blast out 204 horsepower. This will take the place of the SLK 200 Kompressor.

There will also be the 350 CGI that will get the V6 engine with a brute power of 306 horsepower. This powerplant will be similar to the one installed on the brand’s concept Shooting Break.

The German car manufacturer also recently announced the introduction of new V8 and V6 engines that we can expect to be in production come autumn.

Other options for the new SLK will be a glass roof which was a feature exclusive to the SL-Class before. According to insiders, we can expect a radical change in terms of the design lines since the car’s older sibling had lower sales compared to the first gen SLK introduced in 2006.
