Renault working on hybrids, first one could arrive by 2020 – report

Renault has been one among those automakers that have been propagating the use of electric vehicles but recently a report indicates that the company is gearing up to introduce a hybrid vehicle.

In an interview with Les Echos, Renault’s director of powertrain strategy Marc Bodin stated that they were studying the gradual introduction of hybrids in their lineup by the year 2020. He further added that the company is working on all available technologies which mean that we can expect that the company is considering on every possible options ranging from a mild hybrid to a plug-in hybrid.

Automotive News followed up on the above report and was informed that Renault’s work on hybrid models is in the exploratory stage and the company has still not finalized when or if they will launch of hybrid. One of the spokesperson of the company even confirmed that the company could offer a Dacia hybrid is the Renault hybrid is green-lighted.

Renault did not reveal much details but the report from Les Echos is indicating that the company’s first hybrid could be the production version of the Initiale Paris concept which previews the Espace replacement which is due next year 2014.
