At this moment the inevitable is set to happen, and BMW will surely bring a four-door version of the 6-Series. This car looks good but the overlap is clearly evident and it’s about to get even worse, so we don’t understand the purpose of this car.
BMW M5 will not be the only nice BMW with four doors as standard to get a twin-turbo V8 engine. For now we haven’t even saw the features list for M6, but GT Spirit reports that there’s a BMW M6 Gran Coupe in the works, packing about 580 horsepower. It seems that it will arrive to take on other luxury sedans with performance in bulk and coupe-ish looks, models like the Audi S7, Aston Martin Rapide, Maserati Quattroporte, CLS63 AMG and Porsche Panamera Turbo.
We can’t comapare M6 Gran Coupe with no car because it hasn’t an ancestor, but we’ll mention that the extra 53 horsepower the new 5er has over the previous generation helps it accelerate from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds, 0-200 km/h (124 mph) in 13.0 seconds and hit a top speed of 305 km/h (190 mph).
With all these in mind, the idea behind the BMW M6 Gran Coupe is starting to make sense. For now isn’t sure, but we can reportedly expect to see the hot Gran Coupe to arrive in 2012, probably at the Geneva Motor Show. Expect the new M6 Gran Coupe to cost somewhere in the region of €120,000 on the European market.
