Rumor mill: Toyota developing a milder FT-86

by Ron Grant

There is some buzz around the automotive world that Japanese carmaker Toyota is planning to develop a milder sibling of their sports car FT-86. This vehicle on the drawing boards might be fitted with the inline-4 1.5L engine the can deliver 109 bhp.

The baby FT-86 is designed to meet head on competitions like the CR-Z from Honda and will have a sticker price which is about $5,000 lower than the more aggressive FT-86. The details about the vehicle are very scarce but according to insiders, it will be unveiled officially by 2012. Nothing is for sure though until we have the official words.

The Toyota FT-86 will be going on sale by 2011 and will be tagged at approximately $20,000 plus. Toyota first planned to market the FT-86 below the $20K mark but the development cost has forced the company to adjust the estimated pricing.
