SEAT crossover gets detailed, could be launched in 2016

by SpeedLux

New details are now starting to emerge about SEAT’s upcoming crossover.

Auto Express was recently given a chance to preview the model and now they are reporting it is codenamed the Tribu and has styling that is heavily influenced by the Leon. They were not allowed to take pictures but the model has a sculpted hood, a prominent character line and LED headlights. Other highlights include plastic body cladding and squared off wheel arches.

The company did not reveal anything about the specifications but the model is expected to use a variety of four-cylinder engines from the current SEAT lineup. The magazine also reports that the model is based on the MQB platform and is roughly the same size as the Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage.

The crossover hasn’t been given a go ahead yet but it could be approved pretty soon. If everything pans out as per plans, it could be launched as early as 2016.

In related news, SEAT confirmed plans to launch a Leon ST X-perience next summer. It will be an off-road inspired model featuring plastic body cladding, an increased ride height and an upscale interior.
