Volkswagen unveiled today a crossover SUV concept dubbed as CrossBlue at the Detroit Auto Show 2013 event. The car, scheduled to hit U.S. market next year, will either come with six passenger configurations or seven, and will compete other crossovers already available such as Nissan Pathfinder, Dodge Durango, and Ford Explorer.

The CrossBlue concept of Volkswagen is a plug-in hybrid diesel car having two electric motors with 306 horsepower of total output. The power of it is routed equally to the four wheels with the help of six-speed dual-clutch transmission. It is learned the SUV will pick up from zero to 60 mph speed in just seven seconds.

One electric motor of the concept will rout 54 horsepower to the front two wheels and the other motor will thrust with 114 horsepower to the two rear wheels.

Exterior dimensions of the CrossBlue concept are almost same as that of other seven-passenger SUVs. Also, the seats of it in the middle row slides forward to give access to rear seats and the third row seat is foldable.

The car is plug-in hybrid diesel one but the production model of it will be powered by gas engines.

In the U.S. Volkswagen sells just two SUVs as of now – midsize Touareg and compact Tiguan.
